Illegal Aliens Caught Shoplifting from Wal-Mart
California -- On Sept. 25, St. Mary’s Sheriff Dfc. J. Logalbo responded to Wal-Mart in California for a report of a shoplifter.
Investigation revealed Elmer Garcia, 20 of Great Mills and Edgar Caceres-Funez, 26 of Great Mills, stole a pair of “George” earrings. Elmer Garcia and Edgar Caceres-Funez were arrested for theft.
Further investigation revealed both Elmer Garcia and Edgar Caceres-Funez were illegal immigrants from Guatemala.
Garcia and Caceres-Funez are currently incarcerated in the St. Mary’s County Detention Center on $3,500 bond each for the theft charges.
In addition, Immigration & Customs Enforcement were notified. Elmer Garcia & Edgar Caceres-Funez are also being held on charges/detainer’s filed by ICE.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY (WTVD) -- Cumberland County Sheriff's Deputies have arrested an illegal Mexican immigrant for alleged sex crimes involving a 14-year-old girl.
Erick Cisneros-Zavala of Hope Mills was arrested on Friday at a home he shared with relative.
Cisneros-Zavala, 25, is charged with statutory rape, statutory sex offense against a child and taking indecent liberties with a child. Investigators say the offense occurred on September 25, 2008 at the suspect's home.
He remains in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $15,000 secured bond. He made a first court appearance Monday.

Chertoff was defending the need for a "virtual fence" on the border between the United States and Mexico, which he implied would be an environmental boon in border areas. Some opponents say such barriers are harmful to the environment.
Over 150 miles of fence had been constructed through last week, Chertoff said, less than half of the 370 miles of actual fencing Homeland Security hopes to construct.

Violent crimes surge after illegal aliens invade Texas
Aliens flee strict immigration policies for friendlier Lone Star State
While illegal aliens flee strict immigration enforcement policies in several states and settle in Texas, the state's budget is suffering and violent crime, soaring.
News reports indicate a flood of illegal aliens is coming from states such as Arizona and Oklahoma – where immigration crackdowns have made life more difficult for them. In the meantime, Texas' violent crime rates have taken a turn for the worse.
WND researched FBI crime statistics from years 2006 to 2007 for 29 of Texas' largest cities with populations of more than 100,000. The Preliminary Annual Uniform Crime Report reveals two of the state's well-known sanctuary cities with "don't-ask-don't-tell" policies, Houston and Austin, have surging violent crime rates. Houston experienced an additional 314 violent crimes in 2007 compared with 2006 figures. Austin had 213 more violent crimes reported to law enforcement than the previous year.
According to the stats, overall, the 29 most populous Texas cities had 1,083 more violent crimes committed in 2007 than in 2006. While arrest records usually do not indicate suspect citizenship status, the crime trend matches a migration wave of illegal aliens coming from locations such as Arizona and Oklahoma – states with strict immigration enforcement policies and declining violent crime rates.
Getting tough on illegals
Since 2006, Oklahoma has passed laws cutting off benefits such as welfare and college financial aid to illegal aliens. Thousands of Hispanics fled the Tulsa, Okla., area in the shadow of a 2007 state law that limits benefits and mandates deportation for illegal aliens, according to a report from KTUL television in Tulsa.
The news report said in East Tulsa, where a community of Hispanics had grown over recent years, there was a sudden drop in population.
Deputies from the Tulsa County sheriff's office went through training to handle apprehension and deportation procedures, and prepare them to perform multiple duties of both deputy sheriffs and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
Tulsa County Sheriff Stanley Glanz told KTUL in 2007 that the impact of the illegal alien population was evident everywhere in the state, especially in jails.
"We see the effects of gangs, we see the effects of illegal immigrants, we see the effects of drugs, we see the effects of methamphetamines," he said.
According to the FBI preliminary crime report, Tulsa experienced 264 fewer violent crimes in 2007 than in 2006.
Oklahoma law eliminates most taxpayer subsidies for illegal immigrants, allows state and local law enforcement officers to verify the residency status of those arrested and makes it a felony to shelter or transport illegal aliens.
Likewise, Arizona passed strict laws in 2007 requiring employers to verify the immigration status of employees – including one that suspends business licenses of people who hire illegal aliens. The crackdown prompted an exodus from that state.
"I would say we are losing at least 100 people a day," Elias Bermudez, founder of Immigrants Without Borders and host of a daily talk-radio program aimed at undocumented immigrants, told Arizona Republic.
The news report said it's impossible to count exactly how many illegal aliens have fled because of the law, but interviews with immigrant advocates, community workers and real-estate agents confirm the number is significant.
"Some are moving to other states, where they think they will have an easier time getting jobs," the report said. "Others are returning to Mexico, selling their effects and putting their houses on the market."
According to FBI figures, overall, Arizona's largest cities with populations of more than 100,000 experienced 765 fewer incidents of violent crime in 2007 than in the previous year.
Impact of illegal immigration on Texas
The Center for Immigration Studies estimates more than 1.7 million illegal aliens live in Texas. The state has a reputation for welcoming illegals, and it has not passed a law targeting employers who hire them.
Ortiz, a Mexican illegal alien, told the Associated Press he recently left Phoenix to find employment in Houston.
"Here, they let you work," he said. "Over there, they won't. There is a lot of racism, but here there isn't – it's better."
Between 8 percent and 9 percent of the Texas workforce is composed of illegal aliens – many who perform agriculture, restaurant and construction jobs. Critics say cracking down on employers who hire illegals could seriously hurt the state economy.
However, according to the Federation for American Immigration Reform, or FAIR, 44 percent of Texas' illegals use welfare programs including food stamps and Medicaid, while 70 percent are uninsured. It estimates the combined costs of education ($4 billion), medical care ($520 million) and incarceration ($150 million) of illegal aliens in Texas to be $4.7 billion each year.
While the uncompensated cost of incarcerating illegal aliens in Texas' state and county prisons amounts to about $150 million a year, it does not include local jail detention costs or related law enforcement and judicial expenditures or the monetary costs of crimes that led to their incarceration.
The Texas migration is not likely to subside soon, experts say. FAIR estimates, "Without any change in immigration policy or enforcement, i.e., with the current trend in large-scale legal and illegal immigration, the state's population is likely to increase from today's about 23 million residents to around 41 to 43 million persons in 2050."

Illegal alien admits killing girl, 15, in Milwaukie
OREGON CITY -- An illegal immigrant pleaded guilty today to murdering 15-year-old Dani Countryman in a case that drew national attention and exposed flaws in the process for deporting criminal offenders.
Alejandro Emeterio Rivera Gamboa admitted in Clackamas County Circuit Court that he stepped on Countryman's throat to help subdue her while his cousin, also a Mexican national from the Guadalajara area, allegedly raped the girl.
Countryman died in the early hours of July 28, 2007, after a night of partying at the Balboa Apartments in Milwaukie. The Texas teenager was vacationing in Oregon, visiting her older sister, and planned to return home later that day.
Ashley Countryman, who was one of the last people to see her sister alive, sat quietly through the proceedings and later declined to speak with media. Dani Countryman's grandmother, who lives in Texas, listened in by phone.
According to the terms of a plea bargain, Rivera Gamboa pleaded guilty to aggravated murder and abuse of a corpse and will be sentenced to life in prison. He must serve at least 35 years before he is eligible for parole. He was charged with abuse of a corpse because he moved Countryman's body after killing her, according to Chris Owen, deputy district attorney.
Gamboa and his cousin, Javier "Gabe" Arellano Gamboa, were initially charged with aggravated murder, attempted rape and attempted sexual abuse. Arellano Gamboa remains in custody pending trial.
For those demanding a crackdown on illegal immigration, the murder became a high-profile example of the consequences of lax enforcement. Rivera Gamboa had been in police custody nine months before the murder and admitted he was in the United States illegally. But he was not deported.
The Oregonian reported that Rivera Gamboa pleaded guilty to two counts of drunken driving in November 2006. He signed a plea agreement that stated he was not a U.S. citizen and was released without anyone in the criminal justice system notifying immigration authorities.

Illegal Alien RAPES 99-Year Old Woman
HIALEAH (CBS4) ― A Hialeah man has been denied bond for a horrific and heinous crime against two elderly women, ages 99- and 81-years old. Jose Corrales, 33, appeared in bond court Friday, charged with two counts of sexual battery, two counts of kidnapping and two counts of occupied burglary with battery.
According to detectives, the first incident occurred in Hialeah on June 22nd, when Corrales, an illegal alien working as a roofer, spotted the 99-year old woman while she was taking out her trash. Police say he had a brief conversation with her then followed her back to the front door and forced his way in.
The frail 99-year old woman attempted to fight back but was simply overpowered. Police say he pushed her to the ground with such force, that her dentures flew across the room.
She pleaded for her life as she was slapped and punched in the stomach, face, legs, arms and back, according to the police report. Eventually, she was grabbed by the neck and dragged into her bedroom where, police say, Corrales forced her to perform oral sex.
The second incident also occurred in Hialeah, but took place two months later on August 24th.
The victim in this case was an 81-year old handicapped woman with limited mobility. She was sitting inside her home when Corrales stood at her doorway, commented how hot it was outside and removed his shirt.
Speaking in Spanish, the 81-year-old woman told CBS4 Reporter Jorge Estevez how she did not lock her door in time, and he made his way inside and forced her to perform oral sex.
Corrales was captured after DNA taken at both scenes matched. When questioned by police, Corrales admitted his involvement in both crimes.

Illegal alien pleads guilty to Providence murder
PROVIDENCE -- Kelbyn Ramirez, 27, an illegal immigrant from the Dominican Republic, this morning pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the shooting of a friend in May 2007.
Superior Court Judge Robert D. Krause accepted a plea bargain between Ramirez and the office of Atty. Gen. Patrick C. Lynch, and sentenced Ramirez to a 40-year prison term on a charge of second-degree murder, with 25 years to serve and the balance suspended with probation.
On a second count, carrying a pistol without a license, Krause imposed a 10-year suspended sentence to run concurrently with the main sentence.
Ramirez had been indicted on charges of murder and discharging a firearm with death resulting. But under the plea deal, Lynch's office agreed not to seek first-degree murder and to downgrade the second charge to carrying a pistol without a license.
Ramirez, who has an extensive criminal record, admitted to the judge that he shot to death Aneuris Caceres, 21, also a citizen of the Dominican Republic, after the two argued and parted ways long enough to arm themselves.
Caceres got a shotgun and Ramirez, a 9mm pistol, and Ramirez shot Caceres several times behind a tenement in South Providence.

Superior Court Judge Robert D. Krause accepted a plea bargain between Ramirez and the office of Atty. Gen. Patrick C. Lynch, and sentenced Ramirez to a 40-year prison term on a charge of second-degree murder, with 25 years to serve and the balance suspended with probation.
On a second count, carrying a pistol without a license, Krause imposed a 10-year suspended sentence to run concurrently with the main sentence.
Ramirez had been indicted on charges of murder and discharging a firearm with death resulting. But under the plea deal, Lynch's office agreed not to seek first-degree murder and to downgrade the second charge to carrying a pistol without a license.
Ramirez, who has an extensive criminal record, admitted to the judge that he shot to death Aneuris Caceres, 21, also a citizen of the Dominican Republic, after the two argued and parted ways long enough to arm themselves.
Caceres got a shotgun and Ramirez, a 9mm pistol, and Ramirez shot Caceres several times behind a tenement in South Providence.
