ALBERTVILLE — The Albertville City Council at its regular meeting Monday came under fire for its stance on illegal immigration.
Following action on several items, three residents expressed their frustrations.
Stan Stinson said he was “frustrated to see the city government sitting on its hands” concerning immigration.
“If you put it on paper (resolutions), follow through,” Stinson said.
At that point, council President Diane McClendon interrupted to remind Stinson that this was not the place to carry on a personal attack, to which Stinson responded, “I’m disappointed with the council.”
Florence Butler asked the council to publicize anything it might be doing concerning immigration.
Charles Ellis said he is pro-immigration but anti illegal immigration.
“It’s time to stand up,” Ellis said, adding that council members campaigned on one thing but have gone in different directions since being elected.
The council approved an addition to the Albertville/Boaz recycling center building and authorized the purchasing agent to solicit bids for a baler to be used at the center.
Change orders to the contract at the Albertville Library to include renovations to the restrooms and the Williamsburg Garden were approved at a cost of $24,799.49.
A resolution was passed to abate a nuisance on property at 519 Ann St. and to place a lien on the property owned by Bobby and Phyllis Jenkins.
Nell Whitten and the late Edsel Whitten were recognized for their support of the Albertville Regional Airport by granting the city an easement through their property for the expansion of sewer service.
Jeannie Courington was appointed to the Tree Board Committee.
October was recognized as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
