Editor: There are at least 500,000 uninsured drivers on our roads. In 2005, they were involved in 12,000 accidents, causing $85 million un-reimbursed property and medical damage to their victims. Many of these uninsured drivers are illegal immigrants, and yet the N.C. General Assembly Democratic majority refuses to confront the problem of illegal immigration.
The North Carolina Democrats, as our own Hugh Holliman proudly stated in the press conference of the opening of the legislative session, will not oppose Obamacare. Instead of supporting Arizona's immigration policy and saving the taxpayers billions with reform, N.C. chooses to dig the taxpayers deeper into debt - despite having $28.8 billion in unfunded liability for retiree health care. It is obvious that the Democratic Party values giving illegal immigrants free health care more than it does saving the health care of citizens who have worked and earned their health care.
Schools and education are the same. While many school systems throughout North Carolina have had to cut classes in French and Spanish, they have kept classes that teach "English as a Second Language." Added to that are the billions it costs to educate the ever-growing student population of illegal immigrants. How ludicrous is it when our system allows illegal immigrants to receive benefits when our own citizens are being left out?
Illegal immigrants cost billions to taxpayers who fund the births, welfare and education of their children. The argument that we "need" illegal immigrants because they "do jobs that no one else will do" is fictitious; one illegal immigrant working minimum wage every day for his entire life could never repay the debt owed to taxpayers who pay for even one of his children's birth and other medical costs - the cost recouped through higher taxes and higher insurance premiums for the rest of us. The average illegal immigrant has more than three children in this country at taxpayer expense. The truth is that illegal immigration is allowed for the same reason forced annexations are allowed - at the demand of wealthy developers who abuse both and make a higher profit from both at taxpayer expense. Much of those profits go into campaign contributions.
Welfare needs reform immediately; illegal immigration would be the most obvious place to start, yet the Democrats continue to allow illegal immigration to flourish in North Carolina. Our own Holliman has voted for the "drive by" voting and opposed laws that would require voters to show ID in order to vote. He, like the rest of the current majority leadership (which he is the majority leader), seems to want voter fraud to continue. Is this because they know that voter fraud helps them become re-elected?
It would also seem that they think the taxpayer is a limitless source of free funding. It is time to take back our state. Vote for new leadership before we all end up with no education, no health care and no property. Vote for Rayne Brown.
