CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Eight defendants who pleaded guilty to trafficking heroin have been sentenced by the federal government.
According to official court documents and information brought out in court proceedings, the group received heroin from Mexico and then used a local "dispatch" system through which purchasers called a phone number, a dispatcher directed the purchaser to a nearby location, and a "runner" met the purchaser in another vehicle to conduct the transaction.
As a result of the investigation, which began in 2008, law enforcement seized approximately one kilogram of black-tar heroin, the equivalent of more than 10,000 doses.
The defendants sentenced were:
Javier Torres Gutierrez, also known as "Raul R. Infante" and "Perillo," age 22, of Mexico, pleaded guilty on January 7, 2010 and was sentenced to 121 months in prison on July 29
Julio Cesar Tejeda, also known as "Compadre," age 26, of Mexico, pleaded guilty on January 21, 2010 and was sentenced to 84 months in prison on October 1
Joaquin Hernandez Perez, also known as Marcos Navarro-Perez and "Old Man," age 40, of Mexico, pleaded guilty on December 8, 2009, and was sentenced to 80 months in prison on May 26
Diego Alonso Villalobos Rivera, also known as "Angel Jimenez Rosas" and "Costeno," age 19, of Mexico, pleaded guilty on January 13, 2010, and was sentenced to 78 months in prison on May 26
Benigno Arellano Hernandez, also known as "Hector Torres Rodriguez" and "Benny," age 19, of Mexico, pleaded guilty on January 12, 2010, and was sentenced to 66 months in prison on May 26
Fernandez Arturo Cabello, age 43, of Mexico, pleaded guilty on January 27, 2010, and was sentenced to 60 months in prison on May 26
Trinidad Saigada Renteria, also known as "Gallo," age 25, of Mexico, pleaded guilty on October 29, 2009, and was sentenced to 60 months in prison on May 26
Loanis Alberto Cabanillas, also known as "Pelirojo," age 19, of Mexico, pleaded guilty on October 23, 2009, and was sentenced to 42 months in prison on May 26
This case was part of a large-scale investigation that the Drug Enforcement Administration is currently conducting in Charlotte. Additional arrests and charges may be forthcoming.
