Juan C. Reyes, 25, of Lima, Livingston County, was charged with second-degree criminal trespass and petit larceny, both misdemeanors, Livingston County sheriff’s deputies announced last night.
Deputies were called to a Lima residence just before 9 p.m. Tuesday after someone illegally entered the house. The homeowner told deputies that his barking dog alerted him to the intruder.
The resident told police that the intruder was in his kitchen before the man ran away, north toward Routes 5 & 20 in the Village of Lima.
Deputy Martin Herkimer and his K9 partner Oxo searched near the house and located the suspect, still on foot, near the Lima Laundromat, deputies said.
Hero of the day.
Thank you Martin Herkimer!
Authorities said Reyes is in the country illegally. U.S. Border Patrol was also called to the scene.
Deputies checked the residence, from which nothing was taken. However, Reyes is accused of stealing keys from a parked car in the same neighborhood.
Reyes was arraigned in Lima Town Court and was remanded to the Livingston County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail. He will answer the charges in court at a later date.
