In May 1998, police discovered the bodies Wallace Siegel, 75, and Helen Sabraw, 86, at the Camlu Retirement Home.
Police say the Mexican national broke into Siegel’s apartment first, when the man surprised him, Martinez beat him to death with a 25-pound weight.
Martinez then went upstairs and entered Sabraw’s apartment, beating and stabbing her to death. She was also sexually assaulted during the attack.
The case was re-opened this earlier this year, and police were able to identify Martinez as the suspect through DNA evidence.
Las Vegas cold case squad detective Sgt. Jon Scott said: “It's one more off the street that we don't have to worry about.”
According to Sgt. Scott, Martinez has a violent criminal history and has been deported back to Mexico several times.
The illegal alien was already in jail after being identified as a criminal alien when he was recently arrested on a traffic violation.
Gustavo Ramos-Martinez is currently being held in the Clark County Detention Center on two counts of murder with a deadly weapon on a victim over 65.
