Surprise police Wednesday used a stun gun on a suspected shoplifter who resisted arrest, according to authorities.
Carlos Hernandez, 28, was arrested shortly after 2 a.m.
A manager at the Diamond Shamrock convenience store near Bell and Litchfield roads reported a man stealing beer, according to Sgt. Mark Ortega.
At the intersection of Grand Avenue and Bell Road, officers spotted a pickup truck matching the manager's description, and pulled Hernandez over, Ortega said.
The officer approached the truck and saw a man and woman in the front seat. Upon further inspection, the officer saw Hernandez hiding in the back of the truck, Ortega said.
Hernandez attempted to leave the vehicle as the officer called for back up and a chase ensued, Ortega said.
After being apprehended, Hernandez resisted arrest and a stun gun was used. Hernandez immediately surrendered after being stunned, Ortega said.
Hernandez was questioned, and admitted to participating in several other beer runs at the same Diamond Shamrock authorities said. The two others in the truck were not arrested.
Hernandez is currently being held at Durango Jail, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
