CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Police have four teens, two of whom may be illegal immigrants, in custody in relation to a homicide and attempted getaway which happened early Sunday morning.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department say the shooting happened near the Mount Crest apartments on Eastcrest Drive around 4:00 a.m. Sunday.
The victim was identified as 34-year-old Alenjandro Leon-Martinez, pronounced dead at 4:22 a.m.
A police cruiser was already near the scene when the 911 call was made. Upon arrival, the officer discovered the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, then pursued a suspicious vehicle which was leaving the area.
Officers say the suspects jumped and ran from their car after it crashed at the dead end of Commonwealth Avenue.
Three suspects, 16-year-old Kevin Hernandez, 19-year-old Cruz Diaz-Pena, and 17-year-old Joel Munos, were taken into custody at or near the scene of the crash.
Upon further investigation, officers discovered three firearms connected to the shooting near the crime scene. Police said the suspects threw the weapons from their vehicle during the chase.
The fourth suspect, 17-year-old Yaair E. Uresti, was caught Sunday night.
All four suspects are facing murder charges and two of the teens, Uresti and Munos, have holds on their arrest by Immigration & Customs Enforcement.
They are all scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
